When the Pandemic is over...

When the Pandemic is over...

We are nearing the end of a very catastrophic event in human history. one that we'll surely talk about for generations to come. It's hard enough to look back at the situation, most of us lost a lot. but today we're not going to talk about that. today we are looking at what is ahead of us at the end of this tunnel.

You open your phone, you check your Facebook, you view your friend's stories, what do you see? "I got Vaccinated". Seeing your friend smiling with a bandaid on their shoulder telling the world they can freely venture outside with nothing to fear and ready to face what lies ahead. that's the world quietly telling us that we are beginning to see the rainbow out of this storm.
And here lies the question "When the Pandemic is over... what do you want to do?" Here are things that we think you would look forward to the most:

Travel

Last year, many travel opportunities got canceled because the lockdown hits us Filipinos at the worst time possible. it was the Summer of 2020. a lot of us pre-planned to go to the beach or has booked a ticket to leave the country. So, as soon as the window opens up again the first thing we do is call our friends to get back at that drawing board and start packing. because the last thing we would want to see is the four corners of our house that we got to stare at for a whole year.

Milestone Events

Birthdays, graduations, weddings, reunions christening events. even funerals. these are examples of things we missed during the past year. we want to spend our milestones with our loved ones and we also want to be there for theirs. So, check your calendar, be sure to be present, be someone's Ninong or someone's maid of honor, I don't care just celebrate life.

Outdoor Activities

The lockdown allows us to learn quite a few things like cooking, planting, even dancing. TikTok somehow made us realize we are good dancers when no one is looking. but these are things done at home. I for one miss playing basketball with my buds doing contact sports and walking my dogs. you on the other hand probably miss working out at the gym, jogging with someone, or even dancing your rehearsed TikTok moves on top of a mountain. I don't know, just do it outside.

Public Establishments

We are eager to start doing things that were once part of our everyday life. part of it is blowing off steam. we crave activities that take our mind off of our busy schedule and it mostly takes place at public establishments. whether be it shopping at the mall, dining with friends at a restaurant. dancing around at some club. personally, what I crave the most is going to the theatres.

Back at the office

A lot of us got an opportunity to do our work in the comfort of our homes. getting things done remotely. we got excited about it because it saved us a lot of time and resources. plus, we get to do stuff with minimal supervision. fast forward a year later and most of us would say that we miss going back to the office mainly because of our work buddies. we missed greeting them good morning face to face while we complain about a thing or two about something. we miss making our coffee at the pantry area. you probably miss your desk or that squeaky sound your chair makes. every little detail that reminds you of your workplace surely is something we would want to revisit.

Physical Contact

Social distancing really hits us hard. These measures secure physical distance between people at least one meter from each other, it might take quite some time to get used to it again but slowly we finally get to feel someone's hug or greet a stranger with a handshake, even a friend's tap on the back without fear of judgment while in public.

I'm sure there are tons more you can think of, and is probably excited about the idea of reexploring things or whatever gets you that nostalgic feel of what pre-covid felt like. but for now, let's celebrate our teachers, healthcare workers, and everyday essential workers. for making this a possibility for us, and of course YOURSELF, for staying at home and following necessary protocols. if there's anything that this Pandemic has taught us it's: Appreciate all the little things in our day-to-day lives.
